Sites & Attractions of the Village

You can visit the museum of the famous Wimbledon Windmill, situated at the heart of the common, or enjoy a delicious tea at one of its tearooms. Just off the Common is Cannizaro House, now a country house hotel, with beautiful gardens and open-air theatre in the summer. It is a lovely place to have a picnic, or listen to open air music on a summer evening. Further out, in Calonne Road, you will be stunned to find the magnificent Buddhapadipa Temple set in 4 acres of monastic gardens.

Just down Church Road is the world famous All England Lawn Tennis Club which has a museum that gives a fascinating insight into the social and sporting history of tennis. They also organise special activity days for children during school holidays.

To fully appreciate the 3000 year history of Wimbledon, look out for the award-winning Wimbledon Society’s Museum, just one minute’s walk along the Ridgeway. Not to be missed is Southside House, a William and Mary style house built after the Great Fire in 1665. Maintained in traditional style, it hosts a regular programme of concerts, lectures, workshops, and literary evenings, as well as guided tours.
